I know that I will never be politically correct And I don't give a damn about my lack of etiquette As far as I'm concerned, the world could still be flat And if the thrill is gone, then it's time to take it back If the thrill is gone, then it's time to take it back Who am I? Why am I here? Forget the questions, someone gimme another beer What's the meaning of life, what's the meaning of it all? You gotta learn to dance before you learn to crawl You gotta learn to dance before you learn to crawl ... If you want my views of history then there's something you should know The three men I admire most are Curly, Larry and Mo! Don't worry 'bout the future, sooner or later it's the past And if they say the thrill is gone, then it's time to take it back If the thrill is gone, then it's time to take it back

Hi!

Welcome to my homepage, I don't know what you're doing here, but I guess you want to know something about me ;-)

a long, long time ago...

Originally, I'm from [external link]Ludwigshafen am Rhein, a small, ugly and boring town in the southwestern part of Germany. Well, actually I'm from [external link]Assenheim, a village 15km west of Ludwigshafen, Assenheim is even smaller and more dispensable, so forget about it. I went to the [external link]Geschwister Scholl Gymnasium in Ludwigshafen and was happy to leave it again in 1994. I joined the Ludwigshafener Ruderverein in 1990 and started in a few races between 1990 and 1997 with little success. From April '95 to October '98 I was the trainer for the kids.

Studies

I moved to [external link]Karlsruhe in early September '95 to study computer science at the [external link]technical university. I found an apartment which I shared (and still share) with three other students. The original cast was Oliver Lukner, Andreas Maier and Mike Schellhase. A few years later Mike and Andi finished their studies and were replaced by Tobias Zähringer and David Metzler. After I quit my trainer job at the rowing club in '98 I finally found some time to work at the university. From October '98 to February '99 I was a computer science 1 tutor for Prof. Tichy. After that I started to work at the [external link]Telecooperation Office (TecO) as a student software developer (palm pilot-'HiWi') for PalmOS (Palm Pilot and Symbol 1500) and had a lot of fun playing around with the different palms... I was active for the student representation ([external link]'Fachschaft Informatik'), during that time I wrote a short FAQ (in German) for new students and compiled the best emails I answered as the 'Grossinquisitor'. Since '99 I held a few courses at the 'Volkshochschule' in Karlsruhe. First I held a C++ Course for Beginners and later 'Programming for Kids', 'Perl Crash-course' and 'CGI Programming'.

Californication

From May 2000 to October 2000 I worked for [external link]SAP Labs in Palo Alto, CA as an intern. The work I did there went into a student research paper (in German 'Studienarbeit') called 'Creating a Device-Independent Markup Language'. During that time I lived in Mountain View, about forty miles south of San Francisco. Due to my own laziness, the 'Studienarbeit' was not finished until early February 2001, but who cares?

Late studies

Back home again, I finished the first of my two majors (Telematics). After the exam I left Germany (again) for a 4 week trip to Australia. I started working besides my studies, first (from August 2001 until May 2002) for [external link]<sitewaerts> and later (July 2002 until now) for [external link]Schlund & Partner, Germany's biggest ISP. I was working on my diploma thesis from April 2002 to December 2002 and finished it just before Christmas. In March I passed my last exam (my second major Parallel Computing) and finally got my Diploma ;-)
